National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day

Today is a day to celebrate and thank those incredible Americans who are willing to make incredible sacrifices, sometimes the ultimate sacrifice, for their fellow citizens. Police Officers, federal agents, and military personnel all deserve our deepest gratitude. Sometimes overlooked in law enforcement are our Firefighters. Their first responsibility isn’t always to enforce the law, but firefighters often make the same sacrifices as police officers.

Many have seen the devastating forest fires consuming Australia, many of which have been caused by criminal activity. Just today, firefighters from the United States arrived in Australia to help combat the intense and calamitic fires. Just look at what happened the moment when they entered the airport.

The Hill has the story:

A spontaneous round of applause broke out at Sydney International Airport for a group of American firefighters who arrived this week to help fight the wildfires hitting Australia.

Video posted on Twitter on Thursday by the commissioner of the New South Wales Rural Fire Service showed Australians at the airport bursting into applause and cheers as the Americans walked through the arrivals hall.

“U.S. firefighters arrived at Sydney Int Airport this week, on their way to assist with fire fighting in Victoria,” NSWRFS Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons wrote on Twitter.

“Coming through, all gathered gave a spontaneous & lengthy round of applause, reflecting the gratitude & admiration we all have for their generosity,” she also said.

On this day of appreciation, thank someone who has dedicated their life to protecting and serving.
