Tea Party Patriots Action Weekly Report from Washington 05/18/20

CALENDAR: The Senate will return Monday, May 18. The House will not be in session this week, but may come back on May 27 and 28, though I have no idea why.   LAST WEEK ON THE HOUSE FLOOR: The House came back into session on Friday, May 15, to vote on two items – H.Res. 965, a change to House rules that would allow for remote voting and committee activity by proxy, and H.R. 6800, the so-called “HEROES” Act, otherwise known as Speaker Pelosi’s $3 trillion pipe dream. In the lead up to the vote, there was a great deal of consternation on the Democrat side of the aisle. The Progressive Caucus was unhappy with the ...

Ridiculous Measures

Many folks are feeling lockdown fatigue. Staying inside all the time, not socializing, with almost no end in sight. It’s a recipe for disaster. The physical and mental health of Americans is going to decline, not due to Coronavirus, but due to the lockdown itself. Not to mention the toll this lockdown is still taking on the economy. Thousands and thousands of businesses will never reopen due to the forced quarantine put in place by overzealous politicians. Tucker Carlson shares his opinion: As this coronavirus pandemic recedes, it's becoming clear that cities and states that have cautiously reopened did the right thing. They are reaping the ...

Tea Party Patriots Action Weekly Report from Washington 05/04/20

CALENDAR: The Senate will return Monday, May 4. The House may return the week of May 11.   CONGRESS RETURNS: Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell declared several weeks ago that the Senate would return to work on Monday, May 4, and he even scheduled a roll call vote for 5:30 PM to make sure everyone knew he was serious. On Monday of last week, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that, after consulting with House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, she had decided that the House of Representatives, too, would return to work in Washington on Monday, May 4. She then got on a conference call with her House Democrat colleagues and was ...

Authoritarian Pandemic

The most valuable and important thing about our rights as American citizens is that they don’t ever go away. We can’t lose our rights, especially during times of crisis. But, times of crisis is when our rights are threatened most by power-hungry authoritarians. Across the country Americans are facing police brutality, curfews, and drone surveillance. People are getting arrested for going on morning runs on the beach! The Daily Caller reports on more of this authoritarianism: Some public officials, like Democratic Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, have gone so far as to ban people from visiting friends and family unless they are doing so to ...

What Xi Knew and When He Knew It

The Coronavirus, or as some call it the Wuhan Virus, originated in China. The steps that the Chinese Communist Party took to suppress information and their authoritarian manipulation of data make them liable for the disease’s spread to the entire globe. China is now in full PR mode, trying to maintain some sort of innocence, even going as far as to blame the United States, claiming that the military planted the virus. Bradley Thayer and Lianchao Han explain in their op-ed in The Hill: Between Dec. 27, 2019, and Jan. 5, 2020, five firms and institutions detected a SARS-like coronavirus that caused pneumonia among people in Wuhan. The researcher ...

Tea Party Patriots Action Weekly Report from Washington 04/20/20

CALENDAR: The House and Senate are scheduled to be in recess until May 4. Given that the District of Columbia is under a shutdown order until May 15, I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see that May 4 date slip. Except that maybe, MAYBE, the House will have to come back briefly this week to pass another coronavirus response package.   CORONAVIRUS RESPONSE: On the legislative front, Democrats led by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer – acting in concert with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi – last week blocked a bill offered by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell that would have added another $251 billion to the funds in the Small ...

Our Rights Don’t Go Away During A Crisis

Many of our freedoms have come under fire recently thanks to the crackdown on social gatherings during the Coronavirus pandemic. Circumstances caused a tipping point this past weekend due to it being Easter. Some churches across the country wanted to have drive-in services, where no one would leave their cars and come into contact with anyone else. The churchgoers were well within their First Amendment rights to do so, under the freedom to assemble and the freedom to practice religion. But the city mayor tried to stop them anyway. Circuit Court judge, Justin Walker put a stop to that. The Washington Examiner reports: In a case similar to those ...

Partisans Push for Illegal Immigrants to be Released

In the midst of the Coronavirus crisis inmates who are deemed low risk are being released from prison on a temporary basis. This is a dangerous policy, as many of those criminals will not willingly return to prison, leading to manhunts and wasted police resources. Specifically, illegal immigrants being held in prisons across the country pose the biggest flight risk. Paul Bedard at the Washington Examiner explains: One of the nation’s most influential sheriffs on illegal immigration warned Monday that immigrants freed by judges concerned about the coronavirus spreading in jails will disappear after the crisis is over. “The question many people ...

Tax Burden Made Worse by Coronavirus

Taxes seem to be a controversial topic in our modern times for some reason. Even before the Coronavirus pandemic, the topic of property and income taxes seemed to set people off. You would think that all Americans would like to keep more of their hard-earned money, but many seem to enjoy wasting part of their paycheck on frivolous government spending. And the government’s quest to cash in on those taxes hasn’t stopped just because of Corona. Fox 40 in California reports: The anxiety level is ramping up for homeowners and business owners who are facing huge property tax bills that must be paid by April 10. Property taxes on homes are paid ...
